POSCI 1201 Syllabus
Course Description: Development of political institutions and ideals in the U.S. Key elements of the political system, including the Constitution, Presidency, Congress, Courts, parties, elections, and bureaucracy. Combined with POSC 1202 meets code requirements in U.S. history, U.S. Constitution and California government.
Assignments
Grading (375 points total)
Final Paper @ 100 points each
Essays should be 4-6 pages long, using standard font sizes and margins, and will require some research beyond assigned course material. Late essays will not be graded. I will provide assignments sheets three weeks prior to the due date. See class schedule for due dates.
MidTerm Assignment (to be determined) @ 75 points
Short Essays 4 @ 25 points each (100)
In class short essays will be based upon current events, course manual content, and additional readings shared during lecture.
Blog posts and participation 10 weeks @ 10 points each (100)
Each week students will be asked to actively participate in blog discussions that include original posts and responses to classmates. Participation will be graded. Each week you will be asked to explore different topics and themes. This will require you to plan ahead and start the beginning of each week with your discussion board posts. Give yourself time to do the work throughout the week.
