In 2014 California voters decided to approve a measure to reduce lower offenses from felonies to misdemeanors. This comes after a long history of criminal justice reform in California that aims to reduce the prison population.

Respond to the questions below after reviewing the video and the ballot measure specifics.
  1. Why is Prop 47 helpful or harmful to California residents?
  2. How will this ballot measure impact your community or others?
  3. What role do you think prisons play in promoting public safety? How does this ballot measure support our American values?

Within the political system participation is highly regulated by access to a variety of resources. This article highlights the various barriers to political participation and the use and misuse of power within the government. Read the article attached here.

Unpacking the Constitution with Naomi Wolff

Here are a few recent articles about violations to our constitutional rights.

  • Police Citing 3rd Amendment
  • Affirmative Action is constitutional



After watching the film "The End of America" explain how 3 of the 10 tactics named by Wolff relate to the Bill of Rights and other amendments to the constitution. Give three examples of how you see the tactics being used in the United States and what amendment they affirm or negate.

Read the first two chapters of Howard Zinn. Respond to prompts of the questions below and end your original post with a critical thinking question for a classmate to respond to. A critical thinking question is an open ended question that relates to the reading, what you were taught before about the topic, and potentially how the issue you are asking about can change in the future.  Conclude your blog with a question that makes your respondent think. Your critical thinking question should not be a yes or no question.
