Answer the following prompts below
  • I believe that in the future the notion of being a global citizen will take hold and change how we build our communities. As someone living in the United States, in your own words define what is means to be a global citizen. Use your experience to guide your perspective.
  • Describe three aspects of what global citizenship looks like in your dream society.
  • This is your dream world blog. We wont know what to work for if we can create a vision for the change we wish to seek.

For example:

A definition of a global citizen is a person that can equally identify their impact on another person not based on their geographic location but the social, economic, and political impact they have on others based on their own access to power and privilege. One aspect of being a global citizen in this evolved society is that people all over the world no longer pay for food because it is a basic need we all voted that it would keep us alive longer and be better for families if food was just bartered for and not attached to any economic market.

In terms of a 'dream society', which has a nice ring to it, I to see equality in mine. In my d.s., I envision a chance for all to really have a voice in their living quarters/nations. I believe this can occur through stopping corruption and the value/status placed on the wealthy. In qualifying everything, I believe in a d.s. the standards and expectations for education (globally/locally) should be enforced. Rich district or poor, both should have equal access. Thirdly, in a d.s., equal living qualities/standards should be enforced. All of the previous said have something in common: the power of wealth can gurantee the power of access. Without that wealth, everyone will be on the same level and therefore under the law, not above it. And when living in a d.s. and being a global citizen which is stated as 'person that can equally identify their impact on another person' we hold ourselves accountable. If one area decides to be selfish/corrupt then they knowingly are damaging the whole d.s. Yet, in reminding ourselves constantly that we are 'our brother/sister's keeper' then the conscious will be affected, and in so the actions will follow. (hopefully)

I agree with you that equality would be very important ina dream society. You see so much negativity and hatred nowadays that equality would be a nice step in the right direction. I don't know if racism will ever be completely eradicated but trying to make it less prevalent would be a good thing to do for today's society.

I like your desire to see equality become a greater part of society, creating a greater sense of inclusion among everyone. Equality needs to be at the center of everyone, providing everyone with the same rights. While I agree with Alvin in terms that racism might not be completely eliminated it from society because individuals have their own perception of things.

To me, being a global citizen is doing what is proper in the society. The way things are supposed to be in a way. In my dream society, one aspect of global citizenship would be not having to pay for gasoline. If we have cars and need to get around, why should we have to pay for it? We already paid for the vehicles, so why not be able to get around for free? It is a necessity for some and would be very beneficial in a society where gas prices are through the roof we try to get somewhere as fast as possible. Another aspect would be exercise. People would need to exercise in order to live a healthier life. In today's society the rate of exercise is decreasing as people have gotten lazier. It would be great to have a better emphasis on a healthy lifestyle. That way people would live longer and be much happier with themselves. The final aspect of global citizenship I would focus on paying for a place to live. I feel that living spaces are necessities and if homeless people really choose to be homeless like many claim, then they can still be homeless if they choose. However, people that desperately need a place to stay but can't afford it should be given that opportunity. This would make people happier and provide a healthier environment for their families. These three aspects of global citizenship would make for a happier and all around more enjoyable society to live in.

I like your added suggestion of providing more available spaces for the homeless. We, (America) definitely has enough money and space to help the needy. I would add in to your suggestion more free counseling for addicts, of all kinds, and in surplus amount. In addition education should be free as well, to one help provide for the counseling, and help upcoming generations to be free of debt.

I think characteristics of a "Global Citizen" are identifying with all woks of life, selflessness, and a world where nobody hurts anyone (crime or not). I say identification, because how are we suppose to be a global citizen when we identify with class and races. If we don't identify with class or race then we will have no reason to reject people or think we are more superior to one. We should all be seen as equals, no white or black, no rich or poor. I say selflessness because we would all help each other. In my dream society, we would never just leave someone hanging or having to stress about certain things, we would all be there to help each other and support one another. I also say a world where nobody hurts anyone because there is too much crime in this world, and it causes so much pain to families and results in jail or prison time often. If we didn't have crime, there would be no need for prisons and we would all be happier and feel safer. I know this isn't realistic but eventually at some time I would love for one of these things to happen. People should realize we are all equal and that we should not classify ourselves but that we should also never feel that we are less than more than someone else.

My definition of a global citizens is a person that is willing to participate in society to create the change their seek.

In my dream society, global citizenship means organizing, creating connections across the broad, creating a common vision to eliminate the need to compete with one another. Our ability to common together will mobilize our voices addressing multiple issues at the same time. The second creating universal access to all resources without taking a look at rich or poor, rather implementing legislation that provides equal funding for educational programs. Thirdly, establishing the ability to understand that we have an effect on each other, creating a sense of accountability within my society.

Hello,

Your dream society is very reasonable. I really like the goal of creating a common vision to eliminate the need to complete with one another. I believe that once we are as one, or at least when everyone who thinks and believes as one, comes together we will create one powerful group that no one will be able to mess with. Hopefully, there will be no sense of fear and a more sense of empowerment so that people will take their stand.

My 3 goals for a global society includes: no more war, everyone having some where to be sheltered, and a better gun control. My first goal, no more war, will indeed take a lot of time. I feel that if we eliminate war then we wouldn't have a society that is so bad and filled with anger. Since our society is so messed up now I feel that it might be time to just start over clean. Many people are in pain and sorrow because there family members are fighting in this war. My second goal is everyone having somewhere to be sheltered. It is not safe and fair that some people live on the streets because they are sick or just unable to be housed. If we build more shelters then this would not be a problem. We should be able to have more then enough shelters for homeless people to go to. Last is gun control if we had more control of gun laws there will be less people dieing on the streets and less people killing on the streets.
