BLACK PANTHER PARTY 10 POINT PLAN - POLITICAL ORGANIZING

For this weeks blog assignment - choose two of the 10 points in the Black Panther Party 10 point plan. Compare these goals with what you have read in our textbook and learned in class.


What did you learn from the text and lectures that provides additional context for these issues? How do these goals compare to one another? Describe the historical and contemporary necessity for the two BPP goals you chose? Has the BPP seen any progress in these goals? Why or why not?

The Ten Point Plan
  1. WE WANT FREEDOM. WE WANT POWER TO DETERMINE THE DESTINY OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES. 
    We believe that Black and oppressed people will not be free until we are able to determine our destinies in our own communities ourselves, by fully controlling all the institutions which exist in our communities. 

  2. WE WANT FULL EMPLOYMENT FOR OUR PEOPLE. 
    We believe that the federal government is responsible and obligated to give every person employment or a guaranteed income. We believe that if the American businessmen will not give full employment, then the technology and means of production should be taken from the businessmen and placed in the community so that the people of the community can organize and employ all of its people and give a high standard of living. 

  3. WE WANT AN END TO THE ROBBERY BY THE CAPITALISTS OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES. 
    We believe that this racist government has robbed us and now we are demanding the overdue debt of forty acres and two mules. Forty acres and two mules were promised 100 years ago as restitution for slave labor and mass murder of Black people. We will accept the payment in currency which will be distributed to our many communities. The American racist has taken part in the slaughter of our fifty million Black people. Therefore, we feel this is a modest demand that we make. 

  4. WE WANT DECENT HOUSING, FIT FOR THE SHELTER OF HUMAN BEINGS. 
    We believe that if the landlords will not give decent housing to our Black and oppressed communities, then housing and the land should be made into cooperatives so that the people in our communities, with government aid, can build and make decent housing for the people. 

  5. WE WANT DECENT EDUCATION FOR OUR PEOPLE THAT EXPOSES THE TRUE NATURE OF THIS DECADENT AMERICAN SOCIETY. WE WANT EDUCATION THAT TEACHES US OUR TRUE HISTORY AND OUR ROLE IN THE PRESENT-DAY SOCIETY. 
    We believe in an educational system that will give to our people a knowledge of the self. If you do not have knowledge of yourself and your position in the society and in the world, then you will have little chance to know anything else. 

  6. WE WANT COMPLETELY FREE HEALTH CARE FOR All BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE. 
    We believe that the government must provide, free of charge, for the people, health facilities which will not only treat our illnesses, most of which have come about as a result of our oppression, but which will also develop preventive medical programs to guarantee our future survival. We believe that mass health education and research programs must be developed to give all Black and oppressed people access to advanced scientific and medical information, so we may provide our selves with proper medical attention and care. 

  7. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK PEOPLE, OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR, All OPPRESSED PEOPLE INSIDE THE UNITED STATES. 
    We believe that the racist and fascist government of the United States uses its domestic enforcement agencies to carry out its program of oppression against black people, other people of color and poor people inside the united States. We believe it is our right, therefore, to defend ourselves against such armed forces and that all Black and oppressed people should be armed for self defense of our homes and communities against these fascist police forces. 

  8. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO ALL WARS OF AGGRESSION. 
    We believe that the various conflicts which exist around the world stem directly from the aggressive desire of the United States ruling circle and government to force its domination upon the oppressed people of the world. We believe that if the United States government or its lackeys do not cease these aggressive wars it is the right of the people to defend themselves by any means necessary against their aggressors. 

  9. WE WANT FREEDOM FOR ALL BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE NOW HELD IN U. S. FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY, CITY AND MILITARY PRISONS AND JAILS. WE WANT TRIALS BY A JURY OF PEERS FOR All PERSONS CHARGED WITH SO-CALLED CRIMES UNDER THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY. 
    We believe that the many Black and poor oppressed people now held in United States prisons and jails have not received fair and impartial trials under a racist and fascist judicial system and should be free from incarceration. We believe in the ultimate elimination of all wretched, inhuman penal institutions, because the masses of men and women imprisoned inside the United States or by the United States military are the victims of oppressive conditions which are the real cause of their imprisonment. We believe that when persons are brought to trial they must be guaranteed, by the United States, juries of their peers, attorneys of their choice and freedom from imprisonment while awaiting trial. 

  10. WE WANT LAND, BREAD, HOUSING, EDUCATION, CLOTHING, JUSTICE, PEACE AND PEOPLE'S COMMUNITY CONTROL OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY. 
    When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. 

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience hath shown that mankind are most disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpation, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

I chose to do the 3rd out of the Ten Point Plan. Throughout this semester I have been learning a lot about how African Americans got robed from white people by burning down their properties and houses back in the 1920’s. For example in Rosewood back in 1923 whites wanted to kill an African American who was supposedly guilty of raping a white women when in reality a white man did it to the white women, but the white women blamed it on the African American men which led to many white mobs killing a lot of African Americans and burning their houses down. The same thing happened in Tulsa back in 1921 an African American got blamed for raping a white women inside an elevator which escalated to much more bigger things. What the 3rd point plan does is give African Americans the land they deserved after been free from slavery which was to give them debt of forty acres and two mules. African Americans have been robbed a lot from the white system. What happened in Rosewood, later on was taken to court and people from rosewood that survived as they aged got some type of money back, but what happened in Tulsa, Oklahoma the elder people that survived tried to take their case to court but no one listen. Yes those old folks are now dead but they never received anything back from the disgusting things they went through in life.

I agree with you. For so many years, African American have been robbed by the racist government, and 50 million of them were mass murdered. I think those folks from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who are no longer alive, if they have any children, they can still take the case to the court and get the money their parents were supposed to get.

I agree with you, #3 WE WANT AN END TO THE ROBBERY BY THE CAPITALISTS OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES is very important because minorities don't have the wealth they deserve to have. I think our communities should be able to get more financial support to make our communities better and safer for our youth. African American and Latino communities deserve to have better because of historical conflicts in which they were dispossessed of property so it's only fair to get back what was taken away from them.

i think that i would choose 2 and 4 out of all of the 10 point plans to focus on because rome wasnt built in a day and inorder for the oppressed to begin to thrive they need two feet to stand on so i would give them #2 free temporary housing in the community so that their would not be any homeless, so now that we no longer have homeless people we give everyone a high level highschool education with #4 and a free associates degree so that now they have the means to capitalize off this temporary housing that is given and get a pretty decent job in corporate america and begin to pull ourselves out of the gutter that we have been forced in and then its up to the ones who succeed to give back to the communities so that slowly we can begin to flourish. And we won't have to worry about the police as much because we can make full use of the law and actually know our rights so that they wont be stepped on which will change societies stigma of the uneducated black male into the smart, hard working, black individual.

I do agree that finance is one of the biggest obstacle when receiving education and place to live. Without them, the people don't know how to progress effectively to learn what can be done to change the society, like Mr. Brem said if you want to do better in the game, you need to learn rules of the game. But $ being the obstacle to learn the rules, it is hard to get better in the game. Of course everyone should get HS education and even college education. Those who are dropping out should stay in their school to get better in this as well. Those people who understand the rules should help the community how to work the system and help them to change it so the society can flourish like you said.

I agree with you that having money will give you many advantages. You would have more resources and time to accomplish things outside of surviving. Although more school and education doesn’t necessarily mean that we will know more about the law, because some people choose not to care, I do agree that it would help the people that do care.

I like the way you said that knowing more about laws and rights helps people. Because when people don't have any money, they can't go to school and become ill-educated, and even they want to stand up for their rights they don't know the best way to do it cause they don't know the law system. With more knowledge, people get stronger and the police won't be that serious matter since we know we get the rights we deserve.

I chose same two points with you. In my opinion, this two points are things that we need immediately. Stop police discriminate for protecting our life. Stop judge people by appearance for better society. The reason that why I did not choose other points is because they are almost all ask government to do something. However, before claim government to do something, I want to know what people need to do. This society is not just form by government.

In the Black Panther Party 10 points plan, I chose to do the 7th and 9th. From the beginning of the semester until now I have been reading and hearing in class about the 7th and 9th point which are about the police brutality and oppression against the black community and the oppressed people. These issues are not new.  They happened a lot in the US back in the 1960s, where the police symbolized a society that denied black citizens equal justice. Police actions ignited race riots in almost every city in the United States. Deadly force was used against black protesters. They were beaten to death, hot water wa sprayed on them, and dogs were used against them to tear up their skin or to eat them alive.

In today's society,  it really sad to see these horrifying things still happening to the black people in America.
Every time you turn on your TV, you hear about the death of another unarmed black man at the hands of the white police officers. And those officers who kill black men almost every day,  never get charged for their crime. So where is justice? People have been wrongfully arrested and put in prison for no reason. Things need to change.

I don't think that the Black Panther Party has seen any progress in these goals, because things that had happened to the black people are still happening to them in different forms. Injustice, racism, inequality and segregation are still alive.

Out of 10 BPP, I chose to do on 7th, and 9th.
7. WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK PEOPLE, OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR, All OPPRESSED PEOPLE INSIDE THE UNITED STATES.
I will start by saying that this goal has not shown improvement/effects because those who haven't done anything wrong are going to be scared and cautious around polices when we are supposed to feel admired and respectful to them. The feeling we get today when we see police is just look other way, not even look at them in their eyes because of recent event that happened to Freddie Gray who died on April 19 after being arrested without probable cause, but just looked them in their eyes and ran for no reason. It seems to be polices are being ignorant when they think that they can get away from murder in court which is happening sometimes, like reserve deputy sheriff was pleaded not guilty of 2nd degree manslaughter after shooting a man. I don't know if these police brutality is increasing or people are noticing it more, but it is happening so often which is not right. The police are supposed to protect the civilians, but now when we are in danger because of them, who is going to protect us?

I have heard from some people who were in jail that most of inmates in prisons are African American which I don't think because they commit more crimes, but they get higher sentences when they do crimes. Like someone in class said when he and his friend were about to sentence for same crime, his friend (African American) got longer sentence than he did. Why would court decide to give someone higher sentence when they did same crime as others? Because they are trying to lock up as many of African Americans as they can for as long as they can? That basically fails this goal because they are not getting just court trials.

I like the point you brought up about the way we feel about police today. Looking at it through my own eyes, I also tend to look away from the police when I’m on the road. I don’t think police brutality is becoming more common, but that it is catching more attention right now. It is messed up that the very people who are supposed to protect us are harming us, but I suppose that it’s only the minority of police officers who are corrupt.

I will be talking about the fourth and seventh points in the Black Panther Party 10 point plan. I chose these two points because it is a perfect example of progress and failure. In the fourth point, the BPP states that it wants “decent housing that is fit for the shelter of human beings”. The BPP states that the people that create housing should be the oppressed people from the community because landlords won’t give decent housing. Although this goal wasn’t achieved exactly like the fourth point demanded, the government created laws and agencies, like section 8, which would protect tenants from cruel housing conditions. Without section 8, there would be many more families that live in broken run down houses. The other point I want to talk about is the seventh point that demands an end to police brutality and the right to arm our selves. This point hasn’t been achieved. There are still many cases of police killing unarmed black men. There are still a four to one, black to white race ratio in the penal system. Most of these goals have the common theme of getting a group of people together and having the right to fight for what they want.

Section is one of those things that is better than nothing and was a step in the right direction. But still until today it's very hard to meet the section 8 requirements and a lot of people can't get into section 8 because they somehow make too much money but not enough money to live. So you either need to be extremely poor and in a place that you might always be poor to be helped or make "too much money" to earn section 8. So this is an area that still needs much improvement.

I’m choosing #7 and #9 from the BPP 10 point list to do.
WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK PEOPLE, OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR, AND ALL OPPRESSED PEOPLE INSIDE THE UNITED STATES.
From our textbook and our class discussions, the context of it is that there obviously has been racial abuse since the 1800’s, if not earlier. In the past and in the present, there are riots going on in Baltimore about police brutality. In the 1960’s there were gigantic riots in Baltimore that shook up the entire nation due to the events of it. There were rowdy crowds rioting in violent ways, and the government used force to shut it down. Sadly, when using force to quell the violent riots, they also used force on the peaceful ones. The BPP has not seen much progress in this goal, but we are starting to move towards it. Due to the recent national coverage on the surge of police brutality, this issue is being heard by the entire nation, and at some point, will possibly be solved.

From our textbooks and our class discussions, the context of this is because of the riots that broke out nationwide in the 1960’s that resulted in the subduing and arrest of a lot of black people. The BPP has seen some progress in this, where numerous black people aren't arrested on shaky accusations and grounds.

The contemporary necessity for these two BPP goals is because black people have faced and endured many unjust hardships and tribulations.

It is very disappointing when these problems still surface after 50 years of gap between now and the previous events. There were riots and uproar regarding these issues before but we are still facing the same problems these days. Hopefully these issues will improve over the next decades with justice.

The BDP really has not seen much process in stopping police brutality because there was a recent murder of Michael Brown by police officer. Can't believe this kind of things still happening these days. There will not be real freedom for all black and oppressed people unless this kind of incidents stops happening.

The fact that these problems still surface after a fifty year gap is pretty upsetting to me. The solutions of tomorrow feel like there coming undone. Maybe this generation can find a permanent solution so that future generations can have true justice.

The only way to have a permanent solution is awareness, and activists,a dn justice served for the hate crimes commited. As long as we a a people cant empathize and see everyone as equal and not as causes behind the injustice nothing will change.

People acknowledge what the media shows, what we can visually see and factually prove-but what about the unending abuse and racism that has been prevalent in the American communities for blacks since the very beginning. Because of media, and social media black people can finally PROVE the abuse and injustice but before that and inbetween we are the one portrayed as violent and savages who did something to deserve it.

The point five and seven are the most relevant to what we have learned in class. We have learned a lot about unfairness in the minority societies and point 5 and 7 are still relevant problems currently. The police brutality is becoming a major problem these days and the fact that this goal was stated in BPP proves that it hasnt improved over the years. The transparency in our education in history is still not as clear as it should be. These two issues were important for them since it would be a big game changer for their sides. If the history taught everyone the wrong and right issues of the society correctly, everyone will be informed of what has to be improved and learn from. Also the need for protection was important since there were numerous accounts of African Americans being attacked constantly. These two issues are still important to this day since we are still trying to improve on these issues. The police brutality and unfairness towards minorities still exist in our society and awareness to fix these problems are spreading really fast.

Thats was right on the mark. Those two points are still existing in a community today and a lot of us don't know what happened back in history so we not just it was going today. I chose fifth plan from the ten point plan. From the class discussions and the lectures, I have learned that in our society, not all people get equal amount of education as everybody else. Many public schools located near black community does not get enough funding from the government, therefore students do not have enough books, access to computers, and other tools. This resulted a huge gap between black students and other ethnic groups in terms of educational achievements. Government created the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001 to support education in K-12 schools, but there are still many schools in low-income black community where students do not receive much benefits.

I also chose seventh plan out of the ten plan because our class talked a lot about police brutality and murder of black people and other people of color. Throughout the history, police officers have been arresting black and other people of color with no probable cause. In the most recent tragedy, we know an officer repeatedly shot and killed an unarmed 18-year-old black man, Michael Brown. People protest as a community to fight against these injustice, but police officers has not been properly punished. Instead of feeling safe around them, people of color especially black people gets afraid and insecure being around police officers which is very tragic.

I agree with you with the seventh point of the plan. I too would want to end all police brutality and oppression. I believe that is one of the main reason why it makes life uneasy for African Americans because of the fear that you can become a hastag or a headline on the news just as well as Michael brown and all others. Though with the blacks leading at the top of the list with more deaths caused by polices I do think there's a sequence. Every year there's a black person murdered by cops and not getting justice. Is it possible that the country is trying to piss us off more on purpose? Well that's something to think about , what are the justice system's intentions . What is the world trying to tell . We need to look far into the root of the problem and search for a come up and discharge anything negative influences out of society.

The two points from the Black Panther Party 10 point plan that I would like to discuss are numbers 5 and 7.
Number 5 states: “WE WANT DECENT EDUCATION FOR OUR PEOPLE THAT EXPOSES THE TRUE NATURE OF THIS DECADENT AMERICAN SOCIETY. WE WANT EDUCATION THAT TEACHES US OUR TRUE HISTORY AND OUR ROLE IN THE PRESENT-DAY SOCIETY.

In Blog number 10 we learned about how little we are taught about black history even with a whole month dedicated to black history. Our history books tells a distorted version of history and also fails to shows the collective efforts made to push through adversity. One of the first readings we read in class was from History is a Weapon, A People’s History of the United States. We read Chapter 1, titled Columbis, The Idians, and Human Progress. This told a very gruesome story about just how poorly the Indians were treated and portrayed a very different story than the story I was taught growing up, and this also happens with the way history is told about slavery and about the rights of African Americans in the USA. In Blog number 10 we learned just how little a white American knew about black history and very influential black heroes. In class we learned about how black history is told in a way of glorify 1 person and not the collective efforts of all people. This way people are tricked into waiting for a hero instead of getting together and being strong together. Also, how would you feel if you sat in a class as a minority, reading and learning about black history and wondering why your race was singled out and chosen as inferior? You might actually begin to believe you are less than or should be thankful for the rights you have today even though they are your human rights. Even your human rights can be taken away by the white man and given back by the white man, so are they ever truly yours?


Number 7 states: “WE WANT AN IMMEDIATE END TO POLICE BRUTALITY AND MURDER OF BLACK PEOPLE, OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR, All OPPRESSED PEOPLE INSIDE THE UNITED STATES.

It’s a simple request that goes hand in hand with how schools make young black men and women feel and then for them to see Black Americans targeted by police just further confirms their less than position all because of the color of their skin. This is a simple request but yet it needs to be requested because, unfortunately, there is racial profiling and there is racial discrimination being carried out by police forces. We are seeing this a lot in media lately but it’s been something that has been going on for years and decades! Black American’s should have to educate their children on how to not look like trouble, or how to act around police, but they do and it’s because there is an unfair treatment of them. I am philippino and Italian and no one in my family has ever had to give me a lesson on how to act when confronted by a police officer. I see these videos of police shooting black men because they went to go reach for their driver’s license! I didn’t know that because you reach into your car for a driver’s license you give free rights to a police to shoot you. But police force is just another for of oppression being had on the black community.

I agree with you entirely. I feel this distorted teaching of history is a key to a lot of the problems and misunderstandings in society today. If people were taught everybody's history and not from the protagonist point of view, people would get along a lot better and understand each others roots.

I picked 7 because we have talked about situations similar to this not just towards black people but people in general. There were incidences I watched on democracy now about how polices use force onto the people to carry out laws. Those people have encountered the same problem as the BBP. Just recently and currently the ISIS are slaughtering the Syrians and imperializing different regions in Israel and Syria for their oil production. I believe police or army cruelty has gotten worst all over the world. I also picked 8 because this is a huge problem. The BBP wanted to end all wars of aggression and part of that request was for oppressed people to be able to carry a weapon for protection. The country has made this request extremely impossible even though we have the 2nd amendment, the rights to bear arms. People still don’t have that liberty to do so because if you captured with a gun on you, you still get appended. Although half of this wish was fulfilled, we do have amendment for that but it isn't as serious as the BBP wanted it to be.

I completely agree with your reasons why you choose point 7 and 8. The police system has developed a system to set and withhold "safety" by any means necessary without care that they are ones to input a threat on our black community. I like the fact that you looked at it in a much bigger picture, bringing attention to what is going on around the world, not just locally. This gives a better understanding on how exactly the world has a way of withholding to what they think is right. With the police force, military, govt., etc. causing threats to it's citizen it would logical to give them the opportunity for self defense, still this is being denied and punished if discovered of one doing so.

After reading the text book , I realize that “American politics often reflects conflicts between the values of freedom and order and between the values of freedom and equality. These value conflicts are prominent in contemporary American society, and they help to explain political controversy and consensus in earlier eras.” the BPP is all about the equality and freedom.The 2nd Amendment to the constitution of the United States gives a right to bear arms, therefor all black people can have arm themselves for self-defense.
The second plan of the Black panther party 10point plan that I choose is 9th
WE WANT FREEDOM FOR ALL BLACK AND OPPRESSED PEOPLE NOW HELD IN U. S. FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY, CITY AND MILITARY PRISONS AND JAILS. WE WANT TRIALS BY A JURY OF PEERS FOR All PERSONS CHARGED WITH SO-CALLED CRIMES UNDER THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY. 
The courts should follow the United States Constitution that gives a man a right to be tried by his peer group, so that Black people will receive fair trials. As I mention, the point of these 10 BPP is all about equality and freedom.
Has the BPP seen any progress in these goals? My answer is yes, in some area. Like for 7th and 9th , we have 2nd and 14th Amendment to protect our right.

I chose same two points with you. In my opinion, this two points are things that we need immediately. Stop police discriminate for protecting our life. Stop judge people by appearance for better society. The reason that why I did not choose other points is because they are almost all ask government to do something. However, before claim government to do something, I want to know what people need to do. This society is not just form by government.

The 2 goals i chose are goals 5 and 7. Although the goals don't appear to have much in common, they are actually closely linked. African American communities are usually forced to send their kids to sub par schools, meaning their children receive sub par education and lose interest in education, forcing them to turn to crime to pay the bills. It's all part of the school to prison pipeline that leads the "undesirable" kids to the prison industrial complex. Historically, people of color have always been put in bad schools, and if not, have faced discrimination at better schools. This system of mediocre education creates the criminals that the police have prejudices about that are usually people of color, which affects the polices view of colored people, causing them to discriminate against them. The root of the crimes and problems in black communities can be traced back to poor education. I don't feel like the BPP has made any progress in these areas, because both crime and incarceration rates for people of color have gone up in recent years. Education hasn't really gotten better because funds are cut from schools to go into funding prisons, which only makes the problem worse. I feel the problem will only continue to exacerbate if something is not done about it soon.

WE WANT LAND, BREAD, HOUSING, EDUCATION, CLOTHING, JUSTICE, PEACE AND PEOPLE'S COMMUNITY CONTROL OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY. In the history, African American got treat so bad. they didn't have any human rights, they don't have equality. because they were the slave of white americans. For example, African American can not sit in front of the bus, African American can not use the same bathroom with white, "African American always wrong, white alway right." so many year past, we are getting better, people have hunman rights, no more segregation, everyone can go to school, and everyone can go to work. even our president is African American. There are still inequality,but we are getting better and better. We need more organizations like black panther party to lead us change our community. The government will not change unless we change. After we changed, the goverment will automatic change.

I learn that police brutality is a serious issues in our country. we have discussed this issue in class few time and have watch the news about police brutality in class. the Black Panther Party has not seen any progress in this goals because in today’s America, police brutality is still a serious problem. things has not change. Many police have discrimination against black people. and black people got beaten by police to death. black people got shot by police. a lot of these thing are happened in the past and still happening today in our country.

we have discussed about oppressed people and black people are served in prison for long time. many prisoners that cause misdemeanor was sentenced to a long period of time, most of these prisoners are black people. and the government is putting large funding toward prison. they should put the funding toward education and health care, not to the prison. they should release those people that cause misdemeanor. lead them go back to normal life. not just lock them up. the Black Panther Party has not seen any progress in this goals either.

I know the police brutality happens lot in tha past, and it is still happening right now. maybe we should thing from another side, if the police tell us what to do , and we follow the instruction, are we still getting shot? or if we dont do anything bad, police will not touch us. I think this is not just the police's fault, its also our fault too .

The two points that I decided to chose are number five, a decent education on their role in the US history, and current role in society. And number seven, to end police brutality and murder against black lives. Throughout history we have seen police intentionally harm black people because of protesting, thinking they were some type of threat, and more. We can say that in today's day we still can see police act with excess violence. They have beaten the lives of black people, have shot and murdered them, and still continue to be left with no or minor consequence. We have gone over the injustice between police murders and black lives. We have seen how the action of not punishing the police force for an act of murder has consequently projected the image of lack of respect and care towards the black community. The other point is number five, to provide decent education. It is true in my own personal opinion that our history textbooks from early childhood have provided basic knowledge of US history involving black lives, such as slavery, to a limited extent. We should go deeper in these topics, and explore the relationship, if any, to todays society. Another thing would be lack of funds for publics schools in or near black communities. This would involve not enough books, internet access, poor learning conditions, unreliable resources, and many more. With better funding and support we may see a change their academic achievements. Better education gives them a better opportunity to success in life. So far there has been no sufficient improvement in these causes. We have seen much more attention on stopping police brutality, but yet have seen government or law action on this. It is a step towards the right direction, but we need results. The providing a better education is still yet to be seen.

i agree with you for so many years whites have fucked up African Americans. when people riot yes i understand they are breaking the law, but whites did the same thing when they decided to kill african americans and burn all their businesses and houses things they owned back in 1921 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. people need to learn about the past and not judge others for what they are doing now. i hear alot of people say african americans should get treated that way cause they are breaking the law. but do you know what they have went through in the past?? from their point of view they are just standing up for themselves but from the viewpoint of whites they deserve it. get educated

1.WE WANT FREEDOM. WE WANT POWER TO DETERMINE THE DESTINY OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES. 
I choose this one is because we need freedom. The black wants to determine their own destinies by themselves. The poor, the homosexual, the female and people that is unusual also want to determine their own destinies by themselves. Even if the law point that everybody is equal in front of it, people still judge others. People have freedom to be themselves. Government have obligation to let everybody knows that others have freedom to be themselves. And government also need punish people that cannot treat everybody equally. We still have not enough freedom, homosexual still cannot marry, female still have not equal environment with male and people still cannot be treat equal in different color.

I choose this one is because I think police should stop discriminating others. It is very terrible that police cannot be partial. Policemen will be no difference with prisoners if they do not flower the law. Black people and other people of color are all people. They are same. If policemen treat people with different colors, in this moment, they all not policemen anymore. Kind people may be catch, and evil people may be release; this will happen if the policemen treat people with different colors. Policemen cannot treat people equally is the reason why people get kill by them.

I agree with your point. police brutality is a serious issues in the United Stated, and freedom is what people are looking for. All live matter, not only black people. But the problem is, the police brutality brings up a serious social impact. And freedom is another issue, nowadays black people have freedom, but they still treat inequality.

I chose #2 We Want Full Employment For Our People and #3 We Want To End Robbery By The Capitalists Of Our Black And Oppressed Communities. I decided to do WE WANT FULL EMPLOYMENT FOR OUR PEOPLE because I feel like this is one of the reasons why our communities are impacted by violence, drugs, robbery, and prostitution. Our people don't have the opportunity to get jobs whether they are U.S. citizens or not minorities often don't have jobs. As a part of immigrant community, I have seen a lot of people suffer because they cannot get jobs since they don't have legal documents. There are certain folks who complain we are here to take their jobs but in reality they don't even want those jobs they just want to keep all the immigrant population segregated and in poverty. I also decided to do WE WANT TO END ROBBERY BY THE CAPITALISTS OF OUR BLACK AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES because our communities don't get what they deserve, not enough funding for school, parks, shelters, etc. We are no longer the minorities so our communities should get more and more financial benefits. Most of the money is robbed by white folks who take our money to their communities and that's the reason why our communities look dirty and unhealthy while their communities are well structured, clean, and healthy. Our communities need equal funding to make sure our youth takes the right path to succeed in life because at the end of the day our youth is the future of this country.

The points that I picked were five and seven because they are the most relevant points that we learned in classes semester. I picked five because it talked about education that we don't learn about. mostly about black history because a lot of things are sugarcoated and we don't understand what black people really went through back in the day and they say that racism is over , but it is still happening today.

I picked seven because it talked about police brutality and that's really huge issue this going on today because a lot of African-Americans are getting killed by police men and the world or the government seems like it's not a big issue. But it is a big issue and that this huge issue this going on today because a lot of innocent people are dying for no reason. This is very interesting to me that the black panthers Wrote these 10 points because it's really still happening generations later and we need to come together as people to stop these issues that's hurting our community and it's becoming such a big deal that our black men are not safe in America anymore . this really hurts me because I am fearing for my family's life and my friends lives. That's why we keep perching black lives matters.

For this blog I choose to write about the fifth plan from the ten points presented to us. From the Friday lectures I learned that in our current order of society not all people have access to the same amount of education as y else. Many public schools located near black community does people with higher paychecks and people like me don't really get enough funding from the government.This causes students to not have their textbooks, and have limited to no access to computers or other tools like it.The resulted is A fairly big gap between African American students and other ''minorities'' in terms of academic achievements.The government created the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001 which supports education in K-12 schools, but there are to many schools to this day in low-income black community where students can not receive many benefits.

The seventh is the other plan I am going to talk about out of the ten plan, because our class has discussed a lot about the police brutality problem though history. Throughout history officers have been arresting African Americans and other minorities with them usually not actually being guilty of the crime(s) in front of them. In one of the most current cases of this a officer repeatedly shot, and killed an unarmed 18-year-old African male who's name was Michael Brown. People attempt protest as a community to fight against these grieves injustice, but police officers I feel at least need to actually be properly punished for there actions.We should feel safe around them, but most people tense up near officers of the law and that just is not how it is suppose to be in the slightest

2. WE WANT FULL EMPLOYMENT FOR OUR PEOPLE.
I like the way they say "we want full employment for our people". Lately there are a lot of situation when black people are not chosen for high or good position in companies just because they are black. People keep judging black people as they are all ill-educated and low level people, that black people means bad behaviors, rude and ect. That thought has been deep into white people's mind that they don't want to work with black, when that is totally false. In this intense society, without a job your life would always be suffering in debts and bills. You can not have a good life without money and a decent job that can give you a good amount of money. This is the reason to lead people to drugs, violence and other crimes cause when people get stress and pushed so hard to make ends meet, negative thoughts happen. And though white people say they are willing to help but the truth is they ask for legal documents and those things go on like forever. No job, people don't have income, they stay in poverty, can't go to school with no money, don't have knowledge necessary, no job later, and the circle continues endless.
Meanwhile, all the white people with their company, making a huge amount of profit, and don't want to pay or hire black people because of their judges.

4. WE WANT DECENT HOUSING, FIT FOR THE SHELTER OF HUMAN BEINGS.
I have seen over the news and internet the house that black people with low income live with, and even you can see the difference when you go to Oakland and to other city. The house level are in so much better condition. The city and the state government should put more money to improve the live standard for black people houses and places to live. Because they can invest in big project, creating tons of new places for white people, or rich people, and don't even care about the poor one. That is a unfairness I see. Some white people even have the thought that that is how black people have lived for so long, so why bother change? They got used to it anyway. No, we want change, and if things just keep on the ways it is for centuries, we won't have our lives nowadays, we would still live in caves, hunting animals and use fire to live through days. Human keep searching for the better, and since black people are human too, they deserve improvement and care too. Landlords sometime make a standard for minority people that they can only have this kind of house to live because they are not white and they are not rich. They say "Well, you want better, put more money into it". This is when we need the aid from government, to boost the quality of the people's live up, so their lives can become better and better, not worse and worse.

Each of the ten points are extremely important, and although #7 is at this time the most violent and unacceptable I chose to talk about #1 and #5. #1 reminded me a lot about what Malcolm X talked about. Malcolm X spoke a lot about political oppression, how the government has fooled the black communities. Politicians bring false promises, black people are the victims of "americanism" . He says " if you were born black, then you were born in jail". Politicians disguise themselves, and that black people/minorities have been had, been took. His solution was to rely within the community, not rely on the white man, or government, politicians, but to be self reliant. First become self reliant where you live, supporting local businesses that don't belong to "the man". The second is to become proactive and join organizations, control the politics within the community, and vote because the minorities are the ones who truly have the power to choose who goes to the white house. Even though there is major oppression working against blacks, hispanics and other minorities, they have the power within to change things.

The second point I chose is #5, education is the key from the freedom of oppression. But more specifically education that reveals Americas racism,tools for oppression, slavery, and genocide of Native Americans. As children we are told the story of Columbus and the great explorer narrative, learning how wonderful America is. All the while the evilness of our past is hidden. The only way to overcome the evilness is to learn about it and be aware.

This goal has not to show improvement/effects because those who haven't done anything wrong are going to be fear the people in power instead of feeling safe around them. The feeling we get today when we see police is just look other way, not even look at them in their eyes because of recent event that happened to Freddie Gray who died on April 19 after being arrested without probable cause, but just looked them in their eyes and ran for no reason. It seems to be polices are being ignorant when they think that they can get away from murder in court which is happening sometimes, like reserve deputy sheriff was pleaded not guilty of 2nd degree manslaughter after shooting a man. I don't know if these police brutality is increasing or people are noticing it more, but it is happening so often which is not right. The police are supposed to protect the civilians, but now when we are in danger because of them, who is going to protect us?

I have heard from some people who were in jail that most of inmates in prisons are African American which I don't think because they commit more crimes, but they get higher sentences when they do crimes. Like someone in class said when he and his friend were about to sentence for same crime, his friend (African American) got longer sentence than he did. Why would court decide to give someone higher sentence when they did same crime as others? Because they are trying to lock up as many of African Americans as they can for as long as they can? That basically fails this goal because they are not getting just court trials.

In the class discussions and the lectures, I have learned that in our society, not all people get equal amount of education as everybody else. Many public schools located near black community does not get enough funding from the government, therefore students do not have enough books, access to computers, and other tools. This resulted a huge gap between black students and other ethnic groups in terms of educational achievements. Government created the No Child Left Behind Act in 2001 to support education in K-12 schools, but there are still many schools in low-income black community where students do not receive much benefits.

This is because blacks in poor communities dont own anything. They have public housing, low income, section 8, hoeless shelters, vouchers and the properites are government buildings. The schools receive no money because there are no home owners to pay taxes, and most buisness n the communities are clinics, churches, and liquor stores which do not give back to the community.
